Dear Friends,
I am happy to notify you that I have been awarded a scholarship to participate in a seminar in Creating Understanding being held at the World View Center in Portland, Oregon from April 13-June 6. I arrived here with two other Ghanaians on April 12. 11 other participants are from Ecuador, Egypt, Peru, Spain and the U.K. I was recommended by the Ghana Evangelical Missions Association ( GEMA ) of which I am an executive member in charge of training.
The seminar content includes recognition and identification of value systems and behaviors that are normal in one culture but considered abnormal in another; learning to use mechanisms of interpersonal communication to address conflicts that arise from cultural differences; being involved in the role of leadership in establishing systems of tolerance and limits for addressing aspects of diversity and learning to deal with specific conditions and behaviors that create cultural conflict.
The expected outcome will be a more efficient and effective way of recognition and communications to deal with conflicts that arise from differences caused by cultural variation. All in all, my expectation and determination is to return to Ghana a better cross-cultural and world-view evangelist and to pass the knowledge and experience gained to many others. An added benefit is that upon completion we will be accepted in an on-line Master of Arts degree program in Inter Cultural Leadership offered by the World Link Graduate Center which is part of the Institute for International Christian Communication started by Dr. Don and Mrs. Faye Smith former missionaries to Africa.
May I kindly ask you to join me in prayer for the following:
1. God's blessing on the seminar experience for me and the other participants for maximum impact for missions around the world.
2. Lydia and our children back in Ghana to be safe and sound in my absence as we miss each other a lot already.
3. My friend David Ketchum and two of his friends who are currently in Ghana from April 7-29 for Mission Resource International dedicated to growing business enterprises that would become mission supporting agencies in Ghana and beyond.
4. Raphael, Emmanuel and the rest of the Ghana staff who continue to serve faithfully.
You may reach me here at Portland at telephone number 503-872-3772 or the following address:
WORLD VIEW CENTER 6012 SE YAMHILL STREET PORTLAND, OR 97215
Thank you very much.
