Dear Friends, Some of you may have heard and others not, but I had surgery on Monday June 14 at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra for a submandibular stone, 1.5inches in diameter to be removed from my right salivary gland. The 3-hour surgery was successful and I am very thankful to God, the maxillofacial surgical team, Lydia and the rest of my family and friends who have been taking excellent care of me. I am particularly grateful to my friend David Ketchum from Columbus, Indiana who was visiting Ghana at the time and prayed with me at the hospital just before I went to the theater. A specimen of the stone has been sent to the histology department and we will know in due course if it is malignant or non-malignant.
I came home last night, Wednesday 16, and will return for further wound dressing and assessment tomorrow Friday. I am having the pleasure of enjoying more of the South African Soccer World Cup matches, even though African teams are not doing as well as we expect of them. I am hopeful Ghana will win again tomorrow, even though my friend Jan Christensen from Australia may have a different idea. The games bring all of us together. We are one world, made by one God for all of us to love and then love one another. I am grateful for the prayers of intercession and notes of encouragement from several of you. I would appreciate your continuing prayers for full and total recovery from this surgery. May the Lord watch over all of us as he gives us every additional day to serve Him.
