"Everywhere He went, He was doing good
Almighty Healer, He healed the lepers
When the cripples saw Him, they started walking
Everywhere He went, my God was doing good"
African gospel song lyrics
Due to our commitment in providing healthcare to the marginalized and deprived, we collaborated with Global Health Outreach (GHO) and Agave Christian Unity Association (ACUA) in a 7-day medical outreach from July 28 to August 3. This is our 20th year working together in medical outreach, and we thank God for over 3,000 patients who were touched through us in six days of treatment.
As usual through our partners, it was a free medical outreach where patients walked in and left freely without any financial obligations. In addition to the medical care that was provided, patients received free toothbrushes, sunglasses, and soap.
Services provided included medical screenings, dental care (tooth removal and cleaning), eye care (reading and sight), physiotherapy (lower back, knees, arms, shoulders), general consultations, and health education.
Below are details of the cases treated:
The general consultations included the following: malaria, hypertension, gastrointestinal disorders, arthritis, ear diseases, eye diseases, skin diseases, respiratory diseases, mental health diseases, sexually transmitted diseases, schistosomiasis, diabetes, urinary tract infections, malnutrition, mumps, and candidiasis.
In addition to all the physical medical care provided, we also ensured all patients were prayed for by a pastor. The backsliders and non-believers were presented with the Gospel. Eighty-one people confessed faith in our Lord Jesus as their savior, out of which 12 were baptized. Seven pastors will be following up on the new converts in the various villages starting next week.
LIFE-SAVING MOMENTS
In two special cases, patients were in critical moments and had to be transferred to the nearby hospital for further treatment. Both transportation and initial payment were provided for these patients.
Below is a recap from one of the team's doctors, Dr. Teo:
"The Dream Team -- A chance to fall in love with medicine again!
It was an unlikely dream team. Eighty-five strangers from 10 states, 5 time zones, 3 continents were called to Ghana to work with Global Health Outreach and Ghana Christian Mission to be the hands and feet of Jesus. The field, the banks of the Volta, provided a beautiful backdrop that had been carefully prepared through prayer walks that happened months ahead. The team leaders were the pastors in the powerhouse praying endlessly with every patient. The stats were incredible: 3,000 people served, 465 cases of malaria treated, 308 dental patients seen, 473 physical therapy patients cared for, 874 distance and reading glasses (given), and over 6,000 prescriptions dispensed. For one incredible week we got to practice pure medicine. Ghanaian, American, and Australian pastors, providers, and servants all united for one goal. With God's help, we 'left it all on the field' and it was incredible. The scoreboard speaks for itself: God, 81 new believers vs. Satan, 0. To all of those who supported us in prayer, Akpe! Mawu neyra wo! Thank you and may God bless you. We couldn't have done it without you."
Glory be to God!
